Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), the software does not auto generate the notes - for new songs, you must define your own notes using the built in editor (or upload notes other people have designed). I will be adding some new songs soon to the download section soon as well.

Man I found your project on YouTube and must say I'm pretty impressed! I can't wait go get home and try it out! Does the software read out the SIDs and automatically create notes?

About the cassette-idea: I'd play the game just for the SIDs ^^

Definitely an interesting idea! I think the theory is definitely sound, but in practice due to the nature of tape, sync would always be off with the notes, plus you'd have to wait for the song to rewind, and you'd no longer have portability, a person couldn't really download an audio tape over the Internet. They'd have to record the audio back to a tape, and then their tape would be slightly off from what the master tape was, etc. Definitely a cool idea, but a lot of the little details would prevent it from working well I think.

Why don't you put real music into shredz64? Stereo casette tape with guitars only on left channel and the rest (drums, vocals, bass etc.) on the right. The game mutes the guitar channel when there is an error (not a too difficult curcuit to build), the only issue is the music sync to the game (the guitar and the backing track sync should be okay because the stereo tape)?
