Blackberry Minecraft Chat Client

First off, if you haven’t tried Minecraft yet, it is a ridiculously addictive game in which you, the player, dig tunnels, collect materials, craft items, and build up the world around you. You explore underground caverns, build houses, castles, farms, etc. It’s a ton of fun (and definitely a good way to waste hours of your life). If you haven’t seen it before, check it out.

I run a Minecraft server for a few friends of mine, and even if I wasn’t in the game, I wanted to be able to chat with them and run server comands on the go. So I wrote a VERY quick and extremely dirty (and buggy) Minecraft chat client for the Blackberry that will connect to a server, and let you chat and run commands.

BerryCraft Chat:

It has a few limitations – specifically that it will only connect to a server that has minecraft.net authentication turned off. It wouldn’t be too difficult to insert this functionality into it, but I banged this out in a couple days and don’t really have time to put any polish on it.

UPDATE: BerryCraft can be downloaded here.

I would be very interested in trying this software, i run a minecraft server for me and a few friends and it ould be useful to see who (if anyone) is playing while i’m out and about. Only problem is the lack of a download link. i would greatly appreciate it if you could send me one.
also, quick question. i see Game time displayed in the top right corner of the blackberry in the picture, does this refer to the time of day, (ie 0 – 24000) or time that the server has been running?
    Keep up the good work,
    Thanks,

WOW! OMG this is something I’ve been looking for months! I thank you greatly! I am a moderator for the server mc2644.servercraft.com:5633 and I can’t get on a computer all the time I need to moderate on the server! I hope you fix the minecraft authentication however, but I’m glad you have made this. One step closer to having ultimate control of minecraft servers via phone ๐Ÿ˜€ ps my IGN is Hoxieboy if you ever happen to visit the server. Thanks again!

I have been looking for something like this quite a while now, and I would really like it if I could get a copy. But, the part with the minecraft.net authentication, are you saying that Hamachi servers won’t work?

    Sorry if my english fails.

  21. Darren Whitfield says:

    Hey Toni,

I cant find ANY email to get to you on, so I just sent one through your email page on your website.

Basically, I asked for both the client and the source. I am very interested in developing app for BB (I have quite a lot of experience with C#, although I don’t know if this is the language that works).

If it isn’t too much of a hassle, please may you send it to darren.whitfield@gmail.com.

If I do any work on the app, I will give creditability to you.

PS: I play Minecraft a lot, and have been hosting a server for a long time, so I can be a vital asset.

  22. Chris says:

    Hi Everyone –

Some people may have different phones now, but if you are still interested, I just finished another project I was working on, and have resumed work on the BerryCraft client. I now have it working with authenticated logins on the latest server revision, so at this point it should be able to login to anything. (A couple more details here).

As mentioned, I’ll release the first iteration with chat capabilities (probably on Sunday, it just needs a little cleanup), and I want to make a few more additions too depending on what works well, maybe inventory management or something like that. More updates soon!
